Casual Retail Salesperson – New Plymouth & Inglewood
Love talking farm? Know your way around the rural sector? Looking for a bit of flexible work without the commitment of a regular roster?
We might have just the opportunity for you!
About the opportunity
We're looking for a Casual Retail Salesperson to join our Farmlands team, working mainly across our New Plymouth store and occasionally Inglewood stores as needed.
This isn't your typical retail role. We're looking for someone who has a genuine passion for the rural industry, enjoys connecting with farmers and growers, and is happy to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand when needed.
Maybe you're semi-retired, have spent years working in agriculture, run a lifestyle block, or simply have other commitments that keep you busy. You might not want regular hours, but you'd still enjoy getting out, catching up with people, talking farm, and being part of a great team.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to have a chat.
This is a casual, position with hours varying depending on the needs of our stores. Some weeks there may be plenty of opportunities to work, while other weeks there may be very little. We're looking for someone who enjoys that flexibility and is comfortable with no guaranteed hours.
Our New Plymouth store operates seven days a week, while Inglewood operates Monday to Saturday. Most opportunities will be during the working week, with the occasional weekend shift available in New Plymouth.
What you'll be doing
Having genuine conversations with our shareholders and customers, understanding their needs and helping them find the right products.
Sharing your practical rural knowledge and experience, whether that's sheep and beef, dairy, dry stock, lifestyle farming or general agricultural supplies.
Providing friendly, down-to-earth customer service and enjoying a good yarn along the way.
Helping the team with retail sales, stock replenishment, merchandising and general store operations.
Stepping in to support our teams when we're busy, short-handed or need an extra pair of hands.
About you
We're more interested in who you are and what you know than what's written on your CV.
Ideally, you'll bring:
A background in farming, agriculture or the wider rural industry.
A genuine passion for rural New Zealand and the people who make it tick.
A friendly, approachable personality and the ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
Practical knowledge and a willingness to share it with others.
A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to help wherever needed.
Flexibility to pick up shifts when you're available, while being equally comfortable when work is quiet.
Basic computer confidence, or the willingness to learn our systems.
The ability to carry out the physical requirements of the role, including lifting and handling stock up to 25 kg.
Retail experience is helpful, but it's certainly not everything. If you know farming, enjoy people and are willing to learn, we can teach you the retail side.
A forklift licence or first aid certificate would be a bonus, but isn't essential.
Mō ngā painga | About the benefits
