Cloud Solutions Architect Nigel Campbell tells us about his career to date and how his connection to the land brought him to Farmlands. 

What did you want to do career-wise when you left school?  

I thought I would work in engineering like my father.

Tell us about your career to date.

I spent 9 years in engineering and 31 years in computing. Computing has seen me support the NZ Police and Fire NZ for over 9 years. I have also supported many other companies, from 24/7 on call to high level design and leading support teams.

What led you to Farmlands? 

I wanted to work for a progressive larger company that had connections to the land. Owning my own small farm, I wanted to be associated to the land that I love and work in my chosen field.

How have you grown in your time with us at Farmlands? 

I started as an Infrastructure Engineer and was promoted to Cloud Solution Architect 3 years ago now. The challenges have enabled me to grow my knowledge and experience in one of the most senior IT roles in the organisation.

What are you most proud of during your time at Farmlands? 

I love everything IT, and Farmlands forward thinking has presented lots of opportunities to leverage the latest tech to grow the business. This has included using my skills to expand and improve our cloud presence giving more power to our shareholders through cutting edge systems. Currently I'm enjoying taking Farmlands into the multi cloud space.

What would your advice be for someone who's interested in a career in your area at Farmlands? 

Keeping up with the latest IT tech is as crucial as knowing the basics well. Cloud and AI skills are growing every week with career paths and with so many areas of expertise there is a path for anyone IT minded.

One of the greatest things about Farmlands is its relaxed easy going and well supported working environment that encourages self growth.
